When people think of apps, their first instinct would be small programs and utilities that are downloaded for use on a mobile device. However, there are other apps that are acquired through other means. Recently, browser-based apps have increased in popularity, but delivering them properly can sometimes be a thorn in an IT manager’s side. 

While browser-based apps supply employees with various tools and utilities which help them perform or enhance daily tasks, they are often difficult to install or manage. With this in mind, Citrix introduced a new system that will allow for simplified browser-based app management.

Building on the success of its XenApp application virtualization platform, the Citrix Secure Browser product family will assist IT organizations to deliver Software-as-a-Service and web-based apps to any browser or device quickly and securely.

“From enterprises that need to protect access to SaaS applications to current Citrix customers who need a quick way to securely deliver web apps, we’re seeing tremendous demand for Citrix Secure Browser,” Calvin Hsu, vice president, product marketing, Windows App Delivery for Citrix explained in a news release.

Once installed, Citrix Secure Browser allows IT managers to bypass intrusive installation methods and deploy all kinds of web apps on any device. The apps are then delivered virtually, steering clear of compatibility and security issues while helping to improve the end user’s app experience.

“Because of the ability to securely deliver web apps in minutes, this solution will provide IT with a new agility, empowering organizations to adapt to dynamic market conditions and empower business managers in an unprecedented way,” Hsu said. “This will change how software is deployed in the enterprise.”

Citrix offers three installation methods for Secure Browser. The Workspace Cloud Secure Browser includes unlimited web app delivery at a rate of $20 per user per month, while the XenApp equivalent is available as a perpetual license at $150 per device or user. XenApp and XenDesktop users with active Subscription Advantage or software maintenance profiles can get the Secure Browser Deployment Kit at no cost.
